Birmingham Building Schools for the Future

HML Campus

Three schools in the Lozells area of Birmingham; Holte (secondary), Lozells (Primary) and Mayfield (Special needs) came together to be one of the first schools to be built under Birmingham's Building Schools for the Future programme and were one of the three sample schools that rival bidders developed designs for in the competitive process that selected Birmingham's private sector partner for the delivery of all of the cities secondary schools.

The three schools had chosen to be housed in one building with shared facilities, including community facilities, sports and dining areas but with their own dedicated areas. A organogram was developed by The Architects Practice in consultation with the three schools that showed the required relationships between the parts of the building and its division into defined clusters of spaces each with its own social learning zone for both large group and independent learning.

Following an intensive process, with the design and consultation element being led by The Architects Practice, Catalyst Lend Lease and their team of architects, consultants, contractors and suppliers were selected as Birmingham's partners including architects Archial's design for the Holte Mayfield Lozells campus.
